Caerketton Downhill Race
Three Westies headed east for this one, Pat, Brian and myself. For those wondering, runners set off in 15 second intervals, starting at 19:00 on the button. The course differs from the Caerketton Hill Race, you keep right at the second cairn and follow the fence line down the steep bit. The finish is down near the road entrance to the ski centre. It was a lovely sunny evening and the Crags and Arthur's Seat looked in miniature from the view point at the top of the hill. Pat had a great run and took over a minute and a half off the record time in her category. Brian was fleet footed and easily got down in less than 7 minutes. Descending is my weak point compared to my peers and this race was no exception. I thought I ran well, though in less than 2km of downhill Al Anthony (the winner, for the third time) took well over a minute out of me. There were spot prizes at the end for most of the record turn out of 56 runners. Think us 3 Westies all procured alcohol beverages as prizes, a good compensation for the distance travelled and the 'soap dodger' gibes! All taken in good jest though.
