Strathclyde Parkrun #72

Results | Activity on Garmin Connect

I'd only run Strathclyde Parkrun twice before. Once a year ago in a time of 17:27, and once in December on snow and ice in 18:07 when I fell and skinned my knee and elbow. I was wondering if I could get close to 17 minutes this time.

I set off as fast as possible and went through the first kilometre in 3:11, which is actually sub 16 minute pace. However this put me into some sort of oxygen dept, and I could no longer hear any footsteps behind, so I backed off to a more manageable pace. Around the other side of the loch the path was covered in deep puddles, which didn't help much, and my mind started drifting towards saving myself for Millport tomorrow.

I tried to speed up a bit at the end, but this only meant that I slid through the finish line on my back since there is a sharp turn off tarmac onto wet slippery grass. My time was 17:28, a second slower than last year, so the sub 17 run waits for another day.

Well done Chris, although parkrun's not a race it's still mighty impressive to be first home.

Thanks Johnston. Not one of my quicker 5k's, but still a tough enough work out on a pishy morning.

Sorry to have missed you Chris; I jog in Strathclyde park regularly and have done the parkrun twice - once without a barcode - with hopefully more to come over the winter. Must try Pollok sometime too...
