well done to all the Westies at the Ben. The All Time list has been updated with new entries for Cameron, Matt and Val and a PB for Paula. Details on the Club Records pages. I took the easy option and got a lift up the Ben in the RAF helicopter to help put the Mountain Rescue.

It was a great day out, though I'm still not sure why we do this insane race every year.

Although the weather was a little rubbish it didn't make the going too tough. I set off quite swiftly round the field and along the road towards the start of the path. I never really found my stride once climbing and started hemorrhaging paces. Thankfully once passed the Red Burn and on the really steep stuff things improved. By the time I'd reached the cairns that guide you to the summit I was trotting again and making up some of the lost ground.

Although my 1h57m time was my slowest ever it was my quickest descent. The damp conditions meant the scree was moving well underfoot and although I spent a lot of the grassy bank on my backside I kept up the momentum, skipped down the lower parts of the path and pushed along the road home.

Although on Monday evening my legs are still aching I'm sure I'll be back again next year!

A grand day out as usual !

Really enjoyed this year despite losing another minute compared to last years time. I reckoned that I had climbed better and lost the time on the green wall (due to slipping about like Bambi on ice and being determined not to go head over heels) but checking back to last years split I was a minute slower to the summit this year GRRRRRR.

Cheers to JD for shouts on the way up and down.

Anyway ...the day was topped off with beers and an active recovery next day scrambling up pinnacle ridge on Garbh Bheinn and over Bheinn Bheag / Sgorr Mhic Eacharna.

There is just something about this race!! Great fun. I, like many others, found sliding down on my bum the safest route at many points! The weather was much better for me this year so managed a much better time. I even enjoyed the mile of tarmac at the end and passed a few then. Yes thanks for the cheers at the top JD..and wee kiss...........!
The post Ben dancing was also great fun and thanks to Graham K for encouraging a taxi out to the pub!!! I have a good pic that will be shared very soon!

My goal for this year was to get up & down The Ben within the cut of times & I did that so now I can go back on the wine. It was a tough old climb up but I did enjoy it as I was always was with folk. It was the coming down was hard with all the mud at the red burn & needless to say all the bruises I have on my bum. We had a nice meal at the Grog, few drinks, followed by a late night of drams in the campervan. We even mananged 2 Munros on Sunday Aonach Mor & Aonach Beag although I wish I was in the back pack instead of Maisy. Another tick for this year. Was nice to see a few new faces from Westies too.

Another year older, another Ben race...injured. I enjoyed this year far more than last, probably because I didn't destroy my ankle, but also because I backed off a bit with my calf from Creag Dhubh. A spooky thing happened on the way to the ball... we stopped for campervan fuel and the pumped stopped at £111.11, and I was standing at pump number 11 - we pondered the significance, which unlike the view, became clearer at the Ben summit in a time of 1hr 11mins!!! unfortunately the last piece of the supernatural jigsaw was missing - I was not 1st or 11th, and thankfully not 111th! I ended up pushing hard along the road and vainly chasing the young 1st time Ben guy in front around the pitch, which dragged me into 1.49. One small bonus of the crappy weather was than there were far fewer walking hordes on the hill this year with their bloody poles & giant backpacks trying to knock you out. Cheers to JD for the shouts and Barbara for the photos - sorry we couldn't see you guys int he pub, but Maisy was insisting on an early night so she could be ready for the 2 Aonachs the next day! ...oh ps - I hope those Westies who were on the entry list that didn't run at least handed their place back in time for the waiting list...?
