a trip to calderglen
For those of you who (like me) think of East Kilbride as a maze of roundabouts (as it generally is!), Calderglen Country Park comes as a delightful surprise. Don "Corleone" Reid had arranged a nice short handicap trail race through the glen, along the river, and round the back of an industrial estate. A nice short run to prepare me for Croftamie and the Glasgow 10k, I thought. No hazards other than countless Calderglen athletes out training? Wrong. The Grim running style has been commented on before...minimal knee-lift to save energy...a shuffle minus the zimmer frame. Folks, this is not a suitable gait when running on stony woodland paths. With half a mile to go, having been passed by every Westy, I must have switched off ...OUCH! Now I wonder what has become of captain Chris' X-rated photo of my mangled remains crossing the finishing-line? PS Hairmyres A&E - great little clinic - patched me up in double-quick time!Posted by Graeme Orr on Fri 19 Aug 2011 | 3 comments

Glad you are on the mend Graeme, your post race injuries looked rather Grim. Thanks to everyone for making my wife and sister welcome, they both said you were all really nice!!! Deranged or what? Many thanks to Drew and Margaret and to Don and Elma, it was a really enjoyable night.

Grim indeed. Good to hear that the A&E folk got you sorted out again.
Who was first home in the handicap?

I have to confess, the first man home was our very own Chippy Quinn who had a fantastic run, with the fastest lady being Paula. I'm sure i heard John arranging to take Drew and Mgt for a trip to Harry Ramsdens afterwards if he got a good handicap but i could have been mistaken. Fastest runner overall on the night was one of my EK training partners, big Chris just 2 seconds ahead of my good buddy Gerry Reid. Drew should have all the times, though i would rather not see them after the way i ran!!
A big thanks to JD for marking the trail and to D & M for time keeping.
