Caerketton Hill Swim
10th August 2011
There have been a few fine sunny nights in the course of the Bog and Burn series in 2011...The Whangie, The Law Breaker, Turnhouse and others....but this wasn't one of them.
The 'burn' element was supplied from the sky in a controversial change to the earth-bound norm. It was wet tonight...very wet. This aided descending, although I now have abrasions to my rear as a result.
Al Anthony was undeterred by the cloudburst, and won (in 13:30) this short sharp finale to B&B 2011.
The Evans clan were out in force with Donald returning to Westies action alongside dad Malcolm, and sister Neah was sporting her usual Hare & Hounds colours. Donald had all his excuses lined up - 'haven't run for a year until yesterday, only rowed', 'legs still heavy from Goatfell jog yesterday', and so on. He was first Westie home in 4th place (14:49).
Niall was challenging for second at the top, and finished 6th. Owen was 13th tonight rounding off a very strong series for him, and Cam also featured near the front. I felt great and duly delivered....a howler! Still, a marginal PB at 18:57, and a PB on a bad day isn't to be sniffed at. Malcolm rounded off the Westerlands team effort.
Thanks to Chris and Ellie for photos and support. Disappointed that Julia Connor didn't take up my offer of a spare Westies vest.
I'll leave it to Chris to post results and final series placings. That's all from your humble Bog and Burn correspondent for the 2011 series...see you all next year!

Last night's thoroughly miserable conditions at Caerketton only seemed to add to the fun, by making the descent far more slippery than usual. A good turnout of Westies, and great to Donald Evans back on form, taking 4th spot.
