Oxton gala hill race
In my quest to run every proper hill race in the calendar I headed off down to Oxton south of Dalkeith on Saturday. Start was at 12:30 in a great wee games field with the sun beating down but, thankfully, a cool breeze. The race doesn't have much hill in it ......you start round the track, head off cross-country, dodging tree roots and with two burn crossings before about a mile on the flat then the hill ......all 100+ metres of climb of it which hits hard as you've been battering along on the flat ......then a long winding descent on track/road followed by flat 400m another burn crossing then into the field to finish. Didn't do too badly given back working in London and hadn't got home until 1am and, despite the lack of hill, I'd still recommend this to anybody who found themselves in the area, very enjoyablePosted by Brian Brennan on Sun 24 Jul 2011 | 1 comment
