Lee Pen Hill race
Headed off down to Innerleithen on saturday for the Lee Pen hill race which is part of St Ronan's Fair. The locals were having great fun with some of their outfits rather more form fitting than was absolutely necessary, in particular one guy who was encased in exceedingly tight lycra with his face blacked up and a black afro wig.......it was fair to say that his anorexia had cleared up nicely and there was imminent danger of a belly break-out........it was good to see John Quinn again after his hols. Anyway unlike many of these wee races connected with a Highland Games or a gala the route is great and a proper short but challenging hill race. Normally only about 10 people do it and the locals were miffed that somehow word had got around and the prize money might be going elsewhere as over 50 started the race. The rain held off and the race was held in bright sunshine. An other feature of the race was that it seemed to be part of Kate Jenkins HBT Hen weekend and 2 minutes into the race she stormed past towing several balloons ( not a reference to any other runners ). Good honest steep climb up and then back the way you came and I managed to keep ahead of Davie Duncan and beat Phyllis O'Brien of HBT for the first time in several weeks. Alastair Anthony won the race with HBT in 2nd and 3rd places and our new member Iain Stewart I think in 4th .......well done Iain, good to see another Westie, and I don't really mind missing out on another 3 Summer League points. Haven't seen the results yet but I can definitely recommend this race as well worth the effort.Posted by Brian Brennan on Tue 19 Jul 2011 | 1 comment

Sounds like fun Brian! Might try it next year when the tan has died down a little.
