Glen Rosa Horseshoe
What a race, a truly tough challenge, made tougher by the mist and rain. But, I'll say it again, what a race!
I am thoroughly exhausted from the wading through bog, scrambling up granite slabs, insane contouring in knee deep heather, and technical, terrifying descents. It was a really fun and sociable day out with plenty of chat on the train, ferry and bus, and in the rangers station as we hid from the midges. I'll definitely be a regular at this one.
The race was won by Al Anthony with Eilidh Wardlaw the first woman. The Westies dream team was me, Chris and Don. We all ran pretty well and were close to winning the team prize but were pipped by Carnethy.
My most entertaining moment was finishing with only one shoe - the missing one was sucked off my foot 100m from the finish by a deep, muddy puddle. With Jon Binnie (I think) chasing me down and cramp starting to creep in there wasn't time to stop and pick it up. I pushed on, finished with only one shoe and grabbed a drink before heading back up the field to recover my Inov-8.
Great day out - thanks to everyone running and organising!

Totally agree with you Cameron. This is my favorite long race!
With the small field full of well kent faces, it was just like having a run with your hill running buddies - very sociable.
Was really pleased with my run, no blow ups and my usual short cuts worked a treat apart from almost drowning myself in the Rosa river!!
Gutted not to have one the team prize, this is usually worked out by combined times at this race rather than position, but hey ho, thats life. It was still a great day out.

Well done Cameron and Don for making up the Westies team. Unfortunately we were beaten fair and square by Carnethy - on time and on points! I was pleased to win the intermediate sprint for the opening 4½ kilometres into Glen Rosa. Iain Walker and Ian Butler were too strong to stay with, so I ended up running most of the 2nd half with John Binnie until Cameron Burt caught us both on Goatfell and whisked away on the descent.
