Kilpatricks Hill Race 2011
1st June 2011
Unusually gloomy conditions and a damp night for a summer Bog & Burn outing, but the threatened downpour never quite arrived. Kenny Richmond won the race in 45:58, with Christina Rankin coming home as first female in 51:12.
Another grand turnout of running Westies, keeping up our recent flash-mobbing of the B&B series - and that's despite this being a Westerlands-organised race. Many thanks to all the marshalls, timekeepers, and of course race organiser Christine.
It's great to see a line of W vests running, there's always a clubmate nearby to joust with. My own battle was fought with Don Reid and Irvine's Tam Begley, right to the summit of The Slacks, three abreast - then two excellent descenders took off, and I puttered in to the finish. Nonetheless, delighted with a 3-min PB.

Hey Jman,
Well done on a 3 min PB, that’s quite a chunk, so you must be (touch hairy wood) well and truly over all these injury hassles of the last few years. Apols to all for a few pish photos (most of them blur), standing at about a Grand feet in the claggy dreich murk of Humphrey-side, I wasn’t bringing out the half decent DSLR, and of course the wee point&shoot was struggling big time in the conditions. Well done to all who ran on a grey midweek nicht, and thanks to Christine M for sorting all again…

Cheers Chaz284, really appreciated the support from the marshalls on this one. Time for some rest soon to try to lock in the recent gains, then onwards and upwards again.

Great wee evening indeed !
Thanks to all organising and marshalling who made it possible for the rest of us to run.
I tried in vain to keep up wi the westies young team but had a great wee battle with Stuart Simpson which was only decided on the final tarmac section.
Enjoyed a curry afterwards and learned something new about cutting up dead dogs and Lymes disease which made a change fae the usual conversations :-)

I knew it wasn't lamb in that Bhoona :-)
Thanks to everyone for organising and marshalling.
I had a great night on the hill and at the curry. Managed to clock another PB in the race as well, helped along the road section by the person in hot pursuit and gaining on me every step. Turns out it was in fact a cyclist and not a runner :-)

What a cracking race, I think I enjoyed it even more than last year. Great to see Archie continuing his comeback even though I wasn't there first time round I have been told of his past achievements. Bring on Cort Ma Law.

Not a Westies member but thought I say I thoroughly enjoyed my first hill race and managed a decent time as well. Thanks for organising it. I'll try another one soon.

Christine, it looks like the new route is about 10.19km whereas the old one was about 10.24km, hence the new route is about 50 metres shorter, although I suspect there is a fraction more climbing so I doubt whether it makes any noticeable difference.

Sorry JD, I had collected a bundle of marker canes from Colin the Sweeper and they were across the top of my rucksack so I didn't want to pass you in case I hit you with them. Glad that I managed to help you along though - BTW you were clocking over 11 mph at times!
