Dumyat Hill Race

4th May 2011

Provisional unverified results

Another glorious sunny evening, another Bog and Burn blast, and another great turnout of Westies of all vintages and speeds. At the sharp end, Niall and Dave The Snake battled well with the other top runners, and someone dressed as a clown (no, not Tommy - that might happen next week on his home turf) who seemed to be in the top ten soon after the turn.

The race was won by Murray Strain and Angela Mudge. Further back, places were traded regularly, encouragement was handed out, and battle was commenced at all levels. John and Oscar "Dogzilla" Denovan lent support on the final drop through the trees, when the heels were burning and the Fear Of Brennan kept me going to a decent PB (and I'll have my Summer League bonus, thanks!). Despite Jacques' fretting that we'd be well over the 50-min mark, the competition from colleagues pushed us well under it. Good to see so many yellow vests on the hill again, although Paula has been reported to Muffy for NOT WEARING WESTIES COLOURS!!! Perhaps her fine run can be offered as some sort of apology.

Good to see elder statesman Archie in action for the second consecutive week, and youngsters Victoria and Deborah tackling their first hill race in many moons. All in all, too much fun for a midweek evening!

What a great night to be out on a hill albeit not racing (I'm saving myself for Ben Lomond). It was good to see so many Westies, I managed to capture a good few action shots as well. My highlight of the night was Oscar - Dogzilla - going on an Amber terror alert at the sight of Graham Bin Kelly :-)

Aye ...Oscar had his doubts for sure !

Well done to all Westies running.

Only thought about it over the curry but it would be good to get a new Westies team photograph for the website next time we get a big turnout ...some of us look too young in the current offering and it would be great to get some of the new starts recognised.

Where did everyone go when it was curry time??? You all missed a good feed. Great fun evening

Yes John, will need to get on that results system, to chase Mr. Brengun. Could not understand how i did'nt come up in the "proper" place in the results. "You took how long?" Thought Brian that is the Brenan had nobbled my entry,(he had confused the registration Lady so much, and had her in stitches with his marvellous wit & "gigola" repartee that surely anything else was clearly of secondary importance.

Possibly as many as 27 Westies running last night, including Murdo who's been airbrushed out of the results? Cracking turnout, and that for a 7pm start too (bit of a rush getting there from Glasgow, y'see). Well done all.

Can we top this in some of the upcoming Bog and Burn races?

I've just trawled through my photos to locate the rightful positions for JQ and Mindy, and have spotted quite a few more missing or mis-placed runners. A great night for a run though, and nice to see youngsters Cameron Burt and Alan Gilkison passing me on the descent!

Fear of Brennan ?.....that's like being terrified of a cuddly toy surely and I'm trying to lose weight. A great wee race although totally confusing that Don waits until over half way up the hill to come past......I was trying to keep up with Johnston and hoping to keep close enough to Paula to get her on the downhill......turned at the top and in the rocky bit got past Paula then she repassed me and I had to pass her again then she drew level but this time I got away and there he was young Hypochondriac Central himself, Johnston Orr, only 200m ahead.....chased him down good style and was beside him at the bottom of the hill.....but unfortunately the wee uphill and flat bit allowed the youngster to romp away.....the sun came out near the end luckily as it was the reflections from his perfectly polished bonce that gave me warning that John Q was close and I tottered over the line......I like the stopping bit at the end....I must thank old Simple Semple for his gift of a box of cakes before the race and I apologise for keeping them until post race
