Hunters Bog Trot

Hunter's Bog Trot today had a record field of around 150 which delayed the start 10 minutes or so. Conditions were really good for the race and there were 3 Westies taking part, JD the Younger, myself, and the Grim dishevelled chap from the east. Young Mr Denovan had an absolutely cracking race finishing in 19th position in 34:25ish ......I was well back in over 40 minutes and the chap in the off-yellow, doesn't look remotely like a westies top, can i sell you a Big Issue, sort of a guy was another minute or two later. Alastair Anthony won in just under 30mins and no idea who was first lady .....I haven't done this race for 4 or 5 years and I think they've changed the route a wee bit on the way up to the crags as it was definitely more direct in the past. Good to see 3 westies in the far east and after YP's usual incredible prize giving display a pint in Jennie Ha's was just the thing before heading home on the train.

Begad, but I love this wee race! It could be the company of fellow old farts (YP, Nixon et al); it could be the brown girly stunners that HBT keep recruiting; it could be the fabby views of old Edinburry from the crags; YP's prize-giving; etc.
A shame so few Westies ever turn out, even though it's a grand preparation for the similar-length Whangie Whizz.
I think Brian is trying to wind me up, commenting on my DIY running gear while clearly envying John Denovan's red Innov8 racing shoes, fresh out the wrapping. In fact, I had dared to suggest that Brian was behind me in the race - well, there was this fat bloke in a yellow vest following me on the last climb...
I had perfect figures for my time (46m46) and didn't lose any places on my second lap, so no complaints.
Finally, see me Brian, I've moved back west tae Neilston 3 years syne, so enough of this "man from the east" stuff!
