Atkins 3k on the Green
For my first road race in about 3 or 4 years I decided to make it a short one. The Atkins 3k On the Green is a series of 3 lunchtime races in February, March and May. 23 people turned up for this one.The race started under the McLennan Arch in Glasgow Green. As soon as the race started I found myself in 2nd place behind Russell Whittington of Bella. Even with the small field I was pretty amazed to be in 2nd and was fully expecting to be overtaken on the way out. Pretty much all that was going through my head was oh my god I'm 2nd :-)
At the halfway point, a tight turn to come back the same way, I got some encouragement from Brian O'Donnell who suggested reeling Russell in. I pondered this as Russell sped off into the distance. I pushed myself to try and get under 10 minutes but I missed it by 7 seconds.
Looking forward to the next one on 6th May.
Men
1. Russell Whittington 9:37
2. Me 10:07
3. James Cassidy 10:23
Women
1. Beryl Junnier 11:04
2. Claire Thompson 11:31
3. Lorraine Brown 11:42

That's a great result John. Your time clearly shows you're in fine form, ready for a season of PBs on the hills...or challenging Cap'n Chris in a 10k, as any pace predictor on the Web will tell you.

I just checked out the Runners World predictor at http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/general/rws-race-time-predictor/1681.html, 36:14 for a 10k. Can I just take that as a PB without running it? :-)
