Newtonmore 10

I had fancied this race last year but it clashed with Chapelgill which was a short shr counter. I travelled up with some trepidation as the longest run I had done this year was the Nigel Barge 10K. Sat dawned dry and fine and we lined up behind the main street and were piped off by the local pipe band. The route goes out along a cycle path to Kingussie then out to Lynchat at the 5mile mark and back the same way. I started fairly steadily and manage to gain a few places in the first couple of miles which I then lost at 3 miles due to a severe toilet issue caused by an overindulgent breakfast. Thanks to a kind Kingussie resident who let me use her loo I was back on track feeling much better and proceeded to chase the back markers. On the way back I felt much stronger and passed several individuals on the way in to the finish. Afterwards there was lots of sandwiches sausage rolls cake and tea and very generous spot prizes in addition to the main race prizes. The event was well organised with a field of 73 runners well marshalled and very friendly and I can thoroughly recommend it 1st male Ray Wood HBT 54.32 1st Fem Fiona matheson Falkirk 59.03 60th Pat McLaughlin Westies 86.56

Well done Pat. Good finish time considering it includes a 'comfort' break!
