Scottish National Cross Country

19th February 2011

Once again Callendar Park at Falkirk was the setting for the National Cross Country. We just managed to field complete men's and women's teams, with 10 runners in total.

The senior women were off first with defending champion Freya Murray charging off into an immediate and unassailable lead, winning by just over a minute. Ellie was first of the Westie women in 70th place, followed by Pauline, Helen and Pat.

In the men's race, Derek Hawkins defeated 2 times champion Alastair Hay with a 37 seconds winning margin. Niall managed to duck inside the Top 100 with a 99th placed finish. John Denovan had a strong run to finish exactly 1 minute after myself, and Johnston, JQ and Peter completed the team effort.

Hideous as ever...but a great team event. Well done Pauline, Helen and Pat - I felt your support behind me all the way.

Throughout my run I was afraid that I would loose one of my shoes (or both) in the mud. Especially the "smelly water pond" looked scary. Luckily, I escaped. By the way, Chris, did you distort my picture in Photoshop? I must have been really tired at this stage. At least the house in the background looks good. Strangely enough, I enjoyed the race.

My time has been distorted in Photoshop. I'm shown as being fully 5 mins slower than last year.

Peter - you are not supposed to enjoy Cross Country. You were clearly not trying hard enough.
