National Cross Country Relays

Results | Women's race photos | Men's race photos

A good turnout of nearly 4 Westerlands teams for the Scottish National Cross Country Relays at Cumbernauld Park.

The grotty early morning weather cleared to leave a dry fine afternoon.

There's not much to say about running at Cumbernauld other than that it seems like the longest 15 minutes of your life. The route combines steep inclines and sharp corners to knock the stuffing out of you, interspersed with flat fast running, with the constant threat of being overtaken. I went off on the first lap and spent most of my time overtaking Andy McCall of Greenock and Jeff Farquhar of Pitreavie, only to be overtaken straight back again. Andy somehow found a finishing burst that took him well clear, but Jeff forgot to accelerate all the way to the finish, so I somehow jumped past him right on the line. Good to have some new non vets running in both the men's teams!

Pauline is getting worrying close to youngster Cat! Well done Pauline, and thanks to Chris for the photos.

Thanks for the kind comment Muffy although being on the first leg and being pulled along by all of the fast folk probably helps. I am however, pretty chuffed because I think it's the first time that I've broken 20 minutes at Cumbernauld.

Pauline has beaten me in the past - by 1/2 hour at an orienteering event!! Will have to start a dose of Nige's magic reps to see if they can help make me speedier!
