Cashel Trail Race
Photos | Activity on Garmin Connect | Route
The Cashel Trail Race follows a 7km figure-of-8 route on scenic forest trails on the eastern side of Loch Lomond.
A quality field of 15 runners turned up for the race. Peter Devenport was first to finish, followed by Paul Thompson 2nd, David Dickson 3rd and Ellie 4th (and 1st lady). John Quinn was 3rd Westie to finish in 6th place. It looked like Helensburgh and Westies made up more than half the field.

Come on folks, where were you?! Pounding the inspiring streets of Glasgow? This was a fantastic little race run by a group of generous forestry folk and situated in our local patch...and we were outdone in numbers by a road running club! The route was gentle and short and perfect for pre-cross country training, or for those returning to off-road running after a period of injury, or even those who enjoy soft, undulating trails with stunning views across the lochs and hills. There was sunshine, information on the local forestry, an exhibition of art work, gammon rolls and slushy drinks, shady woodland paths, an insect hotel to amuse children, and interested and interesting organisers with a passion for sharing this beautiful national park with visitors.
The race organisers spoke of running a longer race in the area next year, and I'm sure they will need a larger field to compensate for the loss they must be running at this year.
So, please hill runners, do your bit to support these low-key, invigorating ventures and come along next year....I might even buy you a gammon roll if you do.

Really sorry I missed this one, hope to be back in action in a month or so and will be aiming to do this race next year. I do like a trail race, and was pretty disappointed to miss 2 in one week! (Calderglen and Cashel)

Sounds like a lovely run Ellie. Why don't we put next years race onto the Summer League or use it as a venue for a Grudge Match? Maybe that would get a good contingent of Westies and others there to support the race. Sorry to have missed the insect hotel!
