Screel, 17.4.10
Aw shucks never knew you cared. Never knew you actually even read these missives.
Screel or The Hunter's Bog Trot? Which to choose? Well, last time Dave & I went to Edinburgh on a Saturday, the post-race , post-pradial celebrations were so good -did'nt make it back until Monday - or at least it seemed so.
So Screel and naturally an early start to be there well, well , before the crowds. That just would not happen, or would it?
Funny the things you remember about a race as you drive up at the start, or a place, or how you can be instantly transported by the smell of say woodsmoke, freshly cut grass, newly ploughed earth, a song from long ago, "Have I told you lately I love you", missus? Remembrance, remembrance, how does it go, 'A la recherche du temps perdu", Remembrance of Things Past,or more accurately, In Search of Lost Time. Time, Space, and Memory. 1,000 words on each now please.I'm waiting. "Waitin' on a Friend". Aye you just hod the ball pal.
So when a large group of us fronted up for this race many years ago, Ana assured us of the V.I.P. facilities. Still looking for them, but they must be there, right? Well, NATURALLY. Early start was it? Huh. Thought get there an hour early for the finely honed, finely and minutely measured preparations. The taking on of liquid. Liquid is it now? You thought that was for afters. The careful stretching, easing those muscles after the long drive. Yes, you know that all went west. Arrived minutes to spare, filled the form in a trice and They're Off. Don't push it, with Black Apalachi, Oh no that was the other week-end. What was that somebody was saying about shampoo? Every time I go in the shower I say " Allo Vera ....Aloe Vera , I'll get me coat. Or that soaring line from the song " I can climb higher than An Eagle Anna Neagle. What do want - blood? Last chance. Two cannibals eating a clown, one turns to the other, "Does this taste funny to you?"
What?

Sometimes when I'm reading these reports I wonder if it's me that's going mad, or Hamilton....surreal at Screel....

So, Hamilton, did you actually race or did you just keep on eating the mushrooms?

Ah, yes it was another fine race. Reasonable account, staying in front of two snapping at the heels down that last section.
