Chris and JD Roll Around in the Snow

THURSDAY 31 DECEMBER 2009
A fantastic plod round the Ochils with Chris. We ran, walked, crawled, slid and generally floundered about in masses of deep snow having a wonderful time on the last day of 2009. Up Kings Seat from Dollar, skirted round the Maddy Moss, directissimo up to Tarmangie, along to Whitewisp and straight down to the castle. Almost 4 hours for 8 miles. A good way to finish off the year.

Smashing hill day on Hogmanay! Anne, Chris O and myself went up Auchineden Hill and as the main path was quite slipy we headed up towards the radio mast then plodded through knee deep snow to the summit. For once all the bogs along the top of the hill were frozen or buried deep under the snow. Down to The Whangie, almost surreal, for a toast to the hills of 2009. Back home via Carbeth Inn, second visit inside a week and as welcoming as ever. Hope I managed to upload a couple of photos successfully.

All the best to everyone for 2010!

Glad to hear it took you guys 4 hours for 8 miles. I went out to Kaim today. Took me 1.75 hours for 3 and whatever miles. Track was almost all packed ice; Kaim's tussocks and heather were even more interesting than usual with 2-feet deep drops through crusty snow and long deep trenches of snow-covered bog. Views were worth it. Like the photos!
