Pentland Skyline
11th October 2009
A bitterly cold wind was cutting through the Hillend Car Park early morning before the race. Once we got going the temperatures weren't too bad, although there was a ferocious headwind for most of the first half.
It wasn't until the climb up East Kip that David finally caught me. I could still see David until the climb up Bell's Hill, but after that he must have really taken off to climb to 10th position.
Dom and Elizabeth both seemed to enjoy their hill racing debuts, and Graham and Ellie ran well with Ellie successfully winning the SHR Long Classics Series
Summary of Westie results:
10. David Riach, 2:48:13
15. Chris Upson, 2:54:16
28. Graham Kelly, 3:02:55
51. Dominic Ketley, 3:16:24
88. Ellen Homewood, 3:34:51
144. Elizabeth Adams, 4:11:34

Well done Dom and Elizabeth for your hill racing debut, quite impressive to jump straight in at the deep end with a long un!
A huge congratulations to Ellie for winning the long classics series that's very impressive indeed!!

Thanks Elsie. Had a complete shocker at PS and felt ready to hang up my Mudclaws forever after the event, but must admit to having enjoyed the opportunities afforded by the Long Classics Series to shuffle over some hills in great company this summer.
I'd echo your praise of Dom and Elizabeth on their performances yesterday - it was great to share in their fresh enthusiasm. May their studs wear quickly and their laces soon clog with mud!
