Glasgow Parkrun No.33
18th July 2009
3 Westies made the early start to get down to Pollok Park in time for the 33rd running of the Glasgow Parkrun. With a mere 243 runners on the startline, a speedy start is imperative, and downhill sloping tarmac ensures a mad cavalry charge for the first 100 metres. I let the whippets hare off before reeling most of them in over the next 400 metres to move up to the 3rd place at the top of the first little climb. From that point on I tussled with Robert Soutar (Shettleston) around the first lap until he got away, followed by George Taylor of Giffnock who glided past with me floundering in his wake. I dug deep on the 2nd lap to limit the damage and finished 5th in 17:30, just 5 seconds behind Rob and 8 seconds behind George. Ellen made her first appearance and clocked 20:21, just ahead of Pollok old-timer Hamilton who cruised round in a PB-equalling time of 20:39.

Yes, whilst last week Pat & I were enjoying the waffles, bananas, and warm sun, post-race, this Sat. was not quite so tropical. The catering was from Nike who were promoting their new shoe, (they were so good that one runner ran off with them, allegedly forgetting to pay).
For a very short, tarmac race this 5K is strangely addictive.
Try it some Saturday-you may like it, only if you wear Nike shoes take your receipt.

Good to see that Westies are continuing to make use of the parkrun. I'm hoping to find the time to marshall it again soon. Gutted to have missed the waffles last week!
I see Ellie finished just behind my colleague Joe Bovill, who also featured at the Calderglen 10k. Perhaps I should do some more recruiting...
Photos of the event seem to show a man resembling Cap'n Chris in a blue top, and perhaps even Captainess Ellie in non-Westies colours too. Surely not? After last week's Maddy Moss Incident, please tell me it's just malicious work with Photoshop??!!

Aye, you need new Westie tinted glasses Johnston. I wouldn't dream of turning up to a road race without my bright yellow outfit.
