Trossachs 10k
It was a glorious day for this undulating 10K in the forest by Aberfoyle, and for a good cause too - Simon's favourite Anthony Nolan Trust. Four Westies ran (Dave, Muffy, Cat and Pat); one tried to run incognito in non-regulation blue vest and blue (shocking!) shorts, but she didn't get away with it, did she Pat? Despite sore quads from a smashing run at Dumgoyne on Wednesday, Cat romped home as third lady. The rest of our lot set new pw's, citing a variety of excuses from age, infirmity, heat, insanity and general knackerdness. Highlight of the course was a cheerful Katy (who is injured) and mum, and a surprise bellow of "Westies..." from Big Al on the cycle path.
The Calders' true talents came to the fore at the post-race ice cream tasting competition (Mr Whippy vs Orkney cream). It was noted that prize-winning-Miss-Discipline-highly-honed-athlete Cat had only one ice cream whereas the rest of us slouches had two (note to self: more training, less ice cream). The two violas from RNSO had cracking runs and the Calders watched them, and Katy, at the Proms later that day for signs of fatigue. Not a bit. Amazing. Sign them up now.

Not only was Big Al there to cheer us on, but he was accompanied by Andy Freer, leading me to believe that their presence was no coincidence, but actually for the AGM of the Westies Fat Boys Club, that legendary and exclusive sub-sect of members who measured their runs in pound-miles! Sadly, their relative scrawniness doesn't now inspire the gasping wonderment of female Westies as in the halcyon years of the mid-90's. Still, by the time I had negotiated my way around their manly hulks, I reckoned that the total distance had crept up to 10.1Km...well it made my somewhat plodding time seem just a little better!
Great to see Katy and her Mum out cheering us on, at 3 points on the route, not bad going. Now, when are we going to see some of these photos Katy keeps taking?

Well done all who ran! Katy, if you've got photos of the Trossachs Four in action, you could upload them here for all to enjoy... give me a shout if the new website won't play ball...

Looks like I got it all wrong and Andy Freer wasn't out at the Trossachs 10K. So who was that portly but distiguished looking chap in a yellow t-shirt and grey hair a mile from the end...or was the heat so bad that in fact I was seeing Andy in a mirage?
