glasgow parkrun no.15
14th March 2009
Not a forename in sight as the Westies duo of Hamilton Semple and Johnston Orr tackled the 5k parkrun on Saturday morning. The event now attracts well over 100 runners every week.
The pace had slackened off a bit after Robert Gilroy's scorching run of 15:35 last week, with winner Colin Welsh (Border Harriers) coming home in 17:05. Julia Henderson (Helensburgh) was first female in 19:14 for 13th place. Hamilton had a very impressive debut in 20th place with 20:49, and I was 27th in 21:33, with my tent (the weather can be pretty severe in Pollok Park - got to be prepared!). 113 finished.
The event also needs volunteers to continue to be a success - if you fancy helping out for a wee while on Saturday morning, details are here.

By heck that lad Johnston put's himself thro' some training, even in the very heat of the battle, carrying a tent,a tent........next thing you'll be carrying rocks in that pack. Well, a surprisingly tough little jolt to the system, with the early start etc.and a few short hills just to test us.All over in the blink of an eye of course, but certainly worth doing,if only for a visit to the Burrell and for a coffee and cake, and of course the very friendly folk. Over coffee met one lad who had done the 5K off for another 5K in the afternoon, out on the tiles Sat. night, then up at 6 a.m. to drive to Morecombe for a 20 miler. Eh, remind you of anyone??????
