BISHOPHILL RACE
Thought i better write a brief race report to spread the load!
Weather stayed dry long enough to allow just over 100 runners ( a good turnout for a low key non champ race!) to enjoy a breezy but sunny race. Young Robbie Simpson (or is it Stewart? i can't remember) from Stonehaven blew everybody into the weeds with what might be a new course record. Brian Marshall was second.
What about us mortals from Westies? Apart from me, Murdo, Brian Brennan and Dave Rodgers (+ daughter Helen who won the jun race!!) turned out. Dave as usual started like a rocket but i caught him once we got on the steeper stuff. I had my eye on old rival Gordon Pryde who recently turned 50. Caught and passed Gordon, but he got me back on the upper slopes and had a good 75m lead on me by the top. Dave was not too far behind me and Murdo was next in the Westies pecking order. By the time i started descending, Gordon, who is a pretty good descender, was far enough ahead for me to start to think i could'nt close the gap. However i dug in and by the last steep bit, a crazy bit of descending saw me sneak past (a bit faster than my descent for the B team at the Burdens!).
Then disaster struck again! Just as last year when i fell just before the line, allowing Dave Scott to steal vital championship points from me, i fell again. This time however
i managed to roll down the hill at the same speed i had been running at a microsecond before, so that when i got right way up, i was still in front of Mr Pryde. A crazy sprint to the line saw in get Gordon by one second to steal that vital V50 prize!.
Next westie in was an in form Dave Rodgers followed not far behind by Murdo, then Brian. Well done all
I am sure Chris will post the results soon

Well done Don - and glad you managed to give Murdo a lift.I was down at Rosewell yesterday battling it out at the super-hilly Lasswade 10-miler.Now that Bishophill is 2pm rather than 3pm, it's not really possible to run both races.I'll add a link to the results just as soon as they appear on the SHR website.Btw, which championship is that? Or is there a private V50 championship?I wasn't aware that Bishophill is part of any race series this year...
I hope there was someone at Bishophill taking photos. It was really bright spring weather at Lasswade.
