Had made my mind up that for once, i was going to go off hard at the start to try and hang on to Graeme Haddow of EKAC. He normally gets about 400m on me early doors which i can never close. So the plan was set into motion as the gun went. Got away with Chris in the lead group and waited for Mr Haddow to sneak past which he did within about a 1/2 K, followed closely by snake Riach. The alarm bells were ringing and after about 3/4 of a lap I had to ease back slightly as David et al gradually drifted ahead. By lap 3, I was suffering for the fast start but not giving away too many places, but going over the last hillock took the wheels off the trolly and I was passed by Peter Carton of the Shetts who i was keen to scalp. Still, i was 30sec quicker than my tome from the Wdistricts on what was a very similair course. Chris looked to be having a good run when we passed one another and must have been involved in a big burn up at the end. A great day for what may be my last ever XC race.

Well done Don! Why your last cross country?Yes - there were 5 of us all finishing within 1 second of each other, unfortunately I was at the back of this group, having lead the bunch for most of the second 2 laps. Just ran out of steam in the closing stages.

It was another one of those glorious sunny days that we're getting so used to at Irvine. The course was a little more forgiving than for the West Districts and I went better this time, pleased to only drop one place, to a Dumfries man who'd stuck with me from halfway. Thanks to Drew and Elma for all the shouts.
