West District Cross Country
Where were the women, eh? I was promised a team of *4* and no one else showed up! But the men were great company: Gibby, Hamilton, Nige, Don and David R. It was a glorious, refreshing day down by the sea at Irvine Royal Academy. The course was frosty and almost fun. Don and Elma found a new way to motivate with a new mid-race shout "we brought extra tea cakes". Nothing could have spurred me on more (except maybe a tad butter and jam)? Post race nosh at the Reid-mobile is always a pleasure and much appreciated. The men had a cracking race, with the snake out in front, followed by Nige, Don, Hamilton and Gibby. Don was perilously close to Nigel, who clearly had too many mojitas or fajitas down Mexico way (see you at reps tomorrow). There is little positive I can say about my position of 60 (out of 69), except that I beat all the other Westies women (equally, they all beat me). An entertaining drive back, touring the sights of deepest Ayrshire (including D. Calder ancestral home) before re-orienting ourselves in a Glasgow direction. I blame the heated seats, clearly affects the sense of direction.

Glad you enjoyed the nosh Muffy. Thinking of giving up running and moving in to the catering business - how about a health food burger van!!. Really enjoyed my battle with Nige (running under the pseudonym of JD). He just had the little bit extra pace on that last lap. If i had only been 20m closer in that finishing straight it could have been a different story - well done mate!!
Where were all the other westies??. We have a membership of nearly 100 and only 6 made it. Should we drop the name CROSS COUNTRY from the club title??
