Inaugural Glasgow parkrun
6th December 2008
The parkrun concept arrived in Glasgow on a cold and icy morning in Pollok Park, with a decent turnout for the scenic 5km jog from the Burrell Collection through the woods. It's a 2-lap course of a slightly undulating loop, so while it will be useful to compare your results on a regular basis, it's not likely to be a PB course. It's free and it's on every week, and my thanks go to the volunteers who got the event going.
On a personal level, it was a self-inflicted total waste of time for me, as I went the wrong way at the end of the second lap. Not knowing the park, I should have done a course recce in the last couple of weeks, but I didn't, so I failed in my aims of learning the course and laying down a time to beat in future. Own fault. Parkrun doesn't operate the Drew Turnbull method of using a different marker for the lap 2 signs from the one it used on lap 1, so I just followed the signs which would have seen me on an infinite loop. You might want to consider a course recce with map in hand before you try your first run.
John Hamer was the only other Westie there, and followed me down the wrong road. Another guy also appeared from a random direction so we weren't the only ones to get lost.
Results will appear here, although the times for John and I will be fairly meaningless.
Looks like a good event, once I figure out the route.

I understand and sympathise entirely. I blame the course, you should never have to think, run and read a map at the same time.

Muffy,It seems that your regular attendance at the Monday night reps has had an effect on me, in that I can now get lost on a 3-mile run in an urban park!Nice to have learned a new skill.
