Dumbartonshire Cross Country Champs
29th November 2008
Pretty much perfect weather for cross country at Kirkintilloch on Saturday - cool, bright and dry, with not a breath of wind.
Only 4 Westies turned up to our local Dumbartonshire cross country championships - Don, Gibson, Stuart and myself.
The course is far more challenging than Irvine and Falkirk, and includes proper hills, and is soft and muddy throughout.
I hung onto 6th place (I think) until the final lap, when my sore right hamstring packed up altogether, tempting me to drop out straightaway, but I somehow managed to hobble round to the finish with hamstring in spasm, losing 5 places.
Well done to Stuart on completing his first cross country race.

Thanks Chris,
A late night and a late lunch meant this was never going to be a super fast intro to cross country. More a case of plodding round and finding out what it’s all about. Starting near the back ensured things couldn’t get any worse - I managed to plod past a couple of GU guys that haired off at the start. My favoured overtaking spot was that final downhill section near the line, unfortunately everyone else’s favoured overtaking spot was the rest of the course ! From the brief glimpses that I got thought the hedge rows the other westies managed to maintain a slightly higher rate of plodding than my good self …..
