Islay 1/2 Marathon

Great race, superb organisation, lovely trail, fantastic weather, brilliant weekend, especially with so much whisky given away as prizes. Made even better by the turnout of 24 Bogtrotters for (Fat) Norman's stag weekend!

Results:

15th Dave 89:17 (3rd Vet)

16th Chris 89:27

40ish Muffy 99:51 (4th lady, 2nd vet)

1st Couple Dave & Muffy ( winning a magnificent Islay tea towel.....and some whisky)

Dave & Chris ran together until the 11mile mark, pulling through the ranks until Dave's long experience finally overcame Chris's youthful exuberance. Muffy stormed through to win 2.5 prizes despite being doubtful before the race with a hamstring injury.

Thanks also to the Lilian for her enthusiastic support during the race. You will be able to appreciate for yourselves how much her suppport was appreciated. Lil's freewheeling on her bike alongside Chris and I at the lung-bursting 10-mile mark, asking 20 (girly) questions such as "Are you guys going to finish together?" "Aye sure, we'll go through the tape hand-in-hand!".

Lil has threatened not to talk to me again if I retell the exact words of Chris's apology to the Calderglen Harrier running alongside us at the time. Tempting as her prospective silence is, I've succumbed to her bullying and decided to keep quiet!

And at what other race does every Westie end up ahead of HBT's Phil Mowbray(usual time 65 minutes), even if he was still half-cut from the previous night and sipping the drams offered by YP along the trail?

And finally, I get my first vet's prize ever, even with my slowest ever time.

A race thoroughly recommended ( but don't tell too many people).
