Dumbartonshire cc relays

While the bulk of the club was enjoying the fleshpots of Loch Ossian, a few of us defended the honour of the club at the Dumbartonshire relays at Posties park. As the current champions, the pressure was on us to perform.

Nigel ran a strong first leg, starting off slow and gradually building it up to bring us up to 5th place at the first change over. I took over with a bit of a buffer over a Dumbarton runner and Damien Theaker of Helensburgh. Half way round, the dumbarton man had spent all his pennies closing me down and dropped off the pace but Damien passed me with about 1/2 mile to go. I dug in though and managed to outsprint him on the home straight to keep us in 5th.

Gibbie did leg 3 and ran well only conceding 3 places to much younger men. Finally, Hamilton ran the anchor leg maintaining our position in 8th (or possibly 9th position).

The funniest thing that happened was at the end of Hamiltons leg. He had been chasing the man in front and was gradually closing him down. I was shouting at him to nail it with about 1/2 a k to go and Hamilton gestured to me by putting his finger to his lips not to give the game away. He had no sooner done this than the guy in front just took off and disappeared!!

I will need to rely on one of the girls to give an account of their efforts in the ladies race.

See you all at the Nats

I did the relays along with my friend Rebecca who came along to Westies for the first time on weds. For both of us it was our first experience of XC since school! Rebecca was off first and came in in 7th place, (Out of 10 teams starting) and I managed to make up one place to put us in 6th. But sadly we didn't have a final leg runner to complete the team.I now see what Muffy means about XC being hard, it may be short, but I'm not used to running at that speed, it was hard work!

murder isn't it? Now you see why I chose to run in driving gale up at Loch Ossian, (at a leisurely pace, in beautiful scenery).

You will find the OMM a doddle now :)

    Well done Elsie!

Don - a minor point, but Westies didn't win the Dunbartonshire Relays last year... It was the Dunbartonshire CC Champs (10,000m) at Helensburgh where Nige, David, Dougal & myself nabbed first team prize, finishing just ahead of Garscube.

Ah yes, another fine day out at Posties Park, which was only moderately swimming in pools of water at parts of the circuit. So, not literally inches of water, but bloody hard work as ever. Felt so good for at least 20 paces....... Yes,as Don said closing down Kenny McVeigh (Vic. Park) and just going to wind it up, when........the internal, or infernal, generator had apparently broken down. Never mind eh! Always another race on the horizon. That is this Saturday.

Well done Elsie, you don't fancy doing another XC this weekend!!??

Plea to the Ladies - so far (as far as I know) it's Pat and I for this weekend (25th Oct) at Cumbernauld. We need one more Westie lady to complete the team so if you'd like to join us, let me know. Otherwise we'll have to resort to getting a westie man to run in drag!!! Don't make this terrible vision necassary - support your ladies team! Thanks....

I would love to, anything to get me out of the OMM, and the possibility of running in torrential rain, severe gales gusting up to 80mph and some sleet. Sadly I can't really let me partner down, so unless it gets cancelled...

There actually is a slight possibility it might get cancelled as the road to the event centre is under 1m of water, so if that happens I'll let you know!
