voyage to the isle of cheese

one solitary westie paid the £8.75 return boat fare, £1.55 bus ride ticket and £4.00 entry fee to compete at the urie loch hill race on sunday. yes, it was everyones favourite signmaker, scott mckendrick in his third race of the week. part of the lamlash gala week this race really is a high profile event in the villagette of lamlash. unfortunately mckendrick, once again was not up to the challenge. perhaps over-racing, perhaps under-training, perhaps even the buttered roll with 2 slice of bacon(with the fatty bits removed) and a thick wedge of black pudding on the ferry. some might suggest a combination of all three but no-one could argue as to how spectacularly the boy mckendrick imploded shortly after the flat road section and at the first sight of the hill proper. no blackpudding could power those feeble legs faster than the infamous uphill shuffle. was it a jog, was it a walk...was he actually moving. reaching the turn in 6th place, with race leader adam anderson jnr. already showered and enjoying the funfair festivities the overweight westie cut a forlorn figure stumbling through the knee high heather on what was 2 years previously the site of his greatest triumph. he did make it across the finish line in time for the prizegiving in either 6th or 7th spot.

where will he go from here?

CHEERS DREW... WAS IT 2004 OR 05 YOUR LAST TRIP TO LAMLASH. SADLY ONLY AROUND 17 RUNNERS ON SUNDAY. THERE WAS A CHANCE OF CANCELLING RACE FOR NEXT YEAR IF NUMBERS WERE ANY LOWER, ALTHOUGH I THOUGHT 17 WAS A TRIFLE SPARSE. AS YOU KNOW IT IS A CRACKING WEE RACE AND WELL WORTH ROUNDING UP A WESTIES POSSE FOR 2009. HOW IS THE LEG... ANY COMEBACK IN SIGHT, DREW.
