half a ben is better than none
manny gorman followed up his fine form finishing top dog at the melantee on the saturday with an inspiring run at the half ben in a pair of fashion pump trainers recording a podium finish (third). but the good news does not stop there... the westies fielded what would have been a team-prize-of-a-dozen-cans-of-lager winning performance had mr gorgas finished in minus 8th place. manny calculated that this would have been enough to clinch the prize from under the noses of hosts lochaber ac with westies junior man scott mckendrick cruising home in an amazing top 18 finishing spot (or 7th senior male!). for the stat-happy readers the placings were: manny: 3rd 59:53 scott mckendrick: 18th 68:50 mr gorgas(vet 40): 19th 69:11 brenda paul: 61st 99:56. 70 ran. wind.: gentle breeze. temperature: relatively hot. only 2 of the listed westies wore official yellow race vest uniforms. one ran in a dark grey climacool type t-shirt and the other in a royal blue gore vest (size medium though large would have been a better fit) with contrasting grey sports shorts. manny wore his aforementioned disco pumps, scott mckendrick wore his lovely NB 'swith decorative gaiters, steffen wore late arrival innov8's although he possibly changed into his baffies at the turn. i believe brenda was in a pair of walshers... but i could be wrong.

nice one stefann. it sounds as if the boy mckendrick had a storming run... a real credit to westies. i think i will put it to captain chris that we waive his subs in a kinda shettleston/ eritrea fashion. any thoughts.

aw shucks! you're too kind. but i would happily pay double the subs to be part of such a great club as westerlands, and have a spacious van that can be used to offer free lifts to races.

Well, it's only fair after Scott offering to supply new club technical t-shirts to every member, free of charge.Members should e mail Scott with your size and colour requirements as soon as possible.

consigment of technical t-shirts appear to be lost at sea on the container shipment from china. i do have additional westies sweatcatcher technical wrist-straps and limited edition westies cd holders for immediate dispatch.on a more serious note, i would also ask that the captain monitors more closely apparent misuse of the race report section of the website. for the record i have never used the phrases 'aw shucks' and 'free lifts'.
