Ben Sheann Shocker
18th June 2008
What? No midges!
Getting savaged by midges is what Ben Sheann is all about, but last night, along with most Glasgow-based Westies, they didn't bother turning out.
Pre-race favourite Prasad Prasad won the race in 25 minutes, with Angela Mudge first lady, thereby more or less sealing her Bog and Burn title defence.
Westies who ran were Chris, Don, Murdo, Ellie and Stuart.
I couldn't quite get the camera out in time for a photo of Don, who finished less than 30 seconds behind me.

Of the Bog and Burn races that I have done this has to be the worst climb, followed by the best downhill. Managed to pass at least 12 people on the way down, although I think many more than that passed me on the way up !

This is one of my most favorite races in the calender. A very steep almost unrunnable climb for the most part, followed by a mental slippy slimy descent. Dug in like crazy on the climb to hang on to top notch V50 road runner Paul Thompson of Helensburgh, but actually managed to pass him and pull away 1/2 way up. Once over the top, I switched the brain to crazy descent mode to try and catch Chris and Sandy Bennett. Managed to pass 7 people but the gap was too big. Thought i had a large time margin between me and the 2nd V50. Just seen the results and did not realise that i passed seasoned V50 Martin Deans of Forth Valley Orienteers with only a few hundred m to go!

I'd like to say well done Ellie...but 6 minutes behind Angela?! What were you doing, stopping for a barbie? Tee hee, well done to the superfast E and the other Westies who braved the journey north. I was watching footy and having a rest, first run this week just now, what fun.
