Gargunnock Hill Race,7/6/08

Part of the Gargunnock Show that has been a long established tradition. Always glad to be a part of a Show. The welcoming party of Ladies at Registration were definately not 88 on the Grim scale (Loch Katrine),a very friendly pair who promised one seasoned runner a de-briefing at 2.20 -the deluded soul must have thought it was his Birthday. Reports differ on what actually transpired.

Well we arrived in the now statutory heat, The Three Amigos:

Calder, Brennan, & Semple, now joined by a very welcome Jason, merely warming up for Ennerdale. As some of us sheltered from

the heat in the tent, the pre-race warm-ups consisted largely of saying that Wooster now had 3 Butlers for the race, not 2 as in the previous encounter. Would he be putting them to good use?

Would they be supplying him with ice-cold drinks to the summit?

Giving him spray showers to run through?

Or would they disdainfully elbow him off the track?

Quite frankly my dear who gives a damn?

So, it was up a track, getting steeper on to the edge of the escarpment, on top, and down the zig-zag land rover track, bit of a

sting, when we had to climb again, through the forrest, and back for a

lap in the Show-ground to the tumultuous appreciation of that welcoming party.

Then we could relax and watch the Dog Show. Each dog going hell for leather over the obstacles to retrieve a tennis ball the belt back again.

The lads done well.

Well done Dave who is in excellent form.Don't listen to a word he says. Jason, snapping at his heels. Brian, as soon as it cools just a bit....he's off and no catching him.

Thanks to all at Gargunnock for a good Show & to all the Marshalls

and Organiser.

As Hamilton says, it was a great day, watching the performaing dogs and the ladies tug-of-war ( no comments please!!!!). Also it's a nice loop of a race with the descent taking almost as long as the ascent. It was a great day also to spend a birthday, but as I took my second Westies League top-spot in a week I did muse to myself that there was something wrong. It's nice to be the front-runner, but for someone who last run a decent race 14 years ago, it's also a bit puzzling!

The good news is that I'm away for the next two weekends so will miss the next two league races. That means that someone else should have taken over the top spot. That will be a relief, I don't know if I can stand the pressure!!!!

So, come on you young bucks and buckesses, get out there and race. Good luck at Durisdeer & Eildons.

I took a break from sanding the stairs on a scorching day to drive over for a very pleasant race, with an always pushable up, followed by a LONG, curving, fast, trail descent. It was good to see the three stooges there, but overall a poor Westies turnout for a local race, with Central and Bella dominating the club colours.

Joke of the day surely went to PP who came over and asked who was fast?! The answer was clearly 'YOU!' However Dave also showed his recovering form by pushing hard up hill and having a good 30-60 seconds on me at the top and then scooting away like melting lard of a hot skillet (or something). Despite heavy legs this was my best race so far, both in terms of Westies placings and overall so I am very pleased, but as the big C says, where were the youngsters (and wimmin)?

Dave, you're too modest. I'm sure your top spot is well-deserved!

It's looking like Hamilton and Brian are the only runners who can gazump you over the next couple of races.
