Dumbarton 10k
David Riach and I braved the thunder, lightning and torrential rain to run the Polaroid Dumbarton 10k yesterday evening with 700 other loonies.
After having cracked the 40 minute barrier for the first time at last week's Clydebank 10k I was keen to see whether I could beat my latest PB and from what I'd heard Dumbarton is meant to be a slightly quicker course.
This indeed turned out be the case with some long flat straights and only one slight incline of note making for an easy course. Although the weather was horrendous I found it to be refreshing running in the heavy rain with the flashes of lightning and menacing thunder adding atmosphere.
I crossed the line pretty drenched but chuffed with a new PB of 38:34. David also got a new PB and was some 4 minutes ahead of me with 34:50.

That's a minute faster than last week for Bill and 2:30 better that his April PB. Mine was a minute faster too ... woo hoo !! All the turns through the houses in the closing kilometres didn't seem as endless this year.
But it's about time that Bill did his first proper hill race, they're all the rage these days - witness the bumper field at the Kilpatricks. I even overheard a Bella boy at Dumbarton (seen the night before at the Kilpatricks) encouraging his pal to go to a hill race this weekend.

Well done Bill, David and Stuart.
Bill, I had hoped to be out there challenging you at a 10k or 5k this year, but I'm out of action at the moment. I think you'll be a distant speck at the front of the race when I finally return!
