a great turnout of over 50 runners at this classic west coast shortie sponsored by scotland's premier race sponsor, advertisign direct.pick of the bunch on the prize front had to be those must-have kaim hill race limited edition cd holders. sorry to all saab drivers, but the tape/ cassette holders are now discontinued. to get your hands on one of these beauties, answer this simple question: who is scotland's premier race sponsor.full race details to follow.personally i started well and was overtaken mid climb by ellie and then murdo. i nestled in tight behind watching those tight buns move at pace over the rough terrain, soaking up every bump with a twitch to the left and then right. the yellow westies vest hugging the finally toned figure which glistened with a light sweating coating in the evening light. yes, this is where i should be running my races... tucked in snugly behind mr mcleod

Very wet and slippy underfoot. Andy McCall won the race for the 3rd year in a row in a slightly slower time of 31:31, holding off the challenge from Alan Smith who finished in 32:39. Andy took a full minute out of Alan on the descent. I turned at the trig point in 3rd position, just a metre or so ahead of Colin Glencorse. Halfway down the rough descent Colin eventually moved in front, and I never quite caught up again. The final section of track after the burn crossing was unbelievably slidey and treacherous, and not ideally suited to chasing someone down. I started to relax on the final road section and was nearly caught by Nick Emsley, but I heard him coming and managed to up the pace a fraction to sneak under 34 minutes with a time of 33:59.
Ellie did fantastically well to finish as first lady by 3 and half minutes, with a time of 37:19.
I'd say all the times were down a minute or so on normal due to the horrendously slippery underfoot conditions.

Westerlands did well at the prizes picking up first F (Ellie), F50 (Pauline), M50 (Murdo), M60 (Donald) and first women's team (Ellie, Katherine & Pauline).

Wow what a race, from porn king mckendrick throwing a Big W and stalking Murdo, Ellie continuing her current brilliant form and winning, Murdo coming good despite always saying things are getting harder, Pauline and Donald equally showing that things just get better and better, and the WIMMIN coming good as team. How many times can we say Chris getting 2nd V40 was one of the worse club result of the night?
Well done to all of you who made the long journey.

Sorry Jason, but I reckon my run was worst club run of the night. However, despite it being a bit of a plod, I enjoyed my first hill race for ages. Best bit was the total immersion in the burn after losing total control on the slippy banking. Biggest disappointment was Chris not being there with his camera; he certainly had plenty of time to get back to the burn after finishing.

Scott- I have to admit to the same fondness for that inspiring perspective...and after you went haring off after Murdo to win your bun fight, pulsing with testosterone and leaving me floundering knee deep in the bog, I lost my motivation and descended with rather pathetic skips through the tussocks...what a southern wuss!Anyway, it was warming to see so many Westies on the start line, as I'd assumed that only Mr Upson would be batty enought to pelt toward Largs after a long hard day in the office. I was particularly chuffed with the presence of a solid Westie Wimmin team for the second Wednesday night race running...and we were duly rewarded with (a) team prize(s -thanks to a certain generous sponsor)...let's keep the good form and whip those Carnethy & Boggie backsides at Dumyat (but if McKendrick is there, I suggest you don large bumbags for your own dignity)!
