River Tay Dash / Birnam Hill

Belated report of a couple of new races organised by Adrian Davis in and around Birnam near Dunkeld. There are actually 3 races over the weekend .....River Tay Dash 5 miles on the flat at 8pm on the Friday, Birnam Hill - short 4 mile,1500' hill race on the Saturday afternoon, and Deuchary Hill about 11 miles, 2500' hill race on the Sunday.

River Tay Dash - about 20 odd starters running on fairly good tracks from The Hermitage through the woods and banks of the Tay to Birnam in the pitch dark with head torches an absolute necessity. Adrian had it pretty well marked with glow sticks at places people could get lost ....even so several did but great wee race followed by soup etc back at his house/business in Birnam. I was the only Westie present. I can recommend it as something a bit different but bit steep at £7 ( entry for all 3 races is set at bargain of £15 ). Race was won by Ross McLennan with Angela Mudge 1st lady in 3rd place .....she didn't pass me until about half way when the route became clearer and she then stormed through the field.

Birnam Hill - 40 odd starters and this was won by Prasad Prasad with Brian Marshall just behind .....Angela 1st lady in 3rd place again. Don Reid appeared looking around desperately to check that no fast over-50s were around and he then had a great run finishing in 9th just behind Andy Spencely although I don't think they were giving out prizes to over 50s ......this was a really good wee route straight up the side of Birnam Hill and then a winding descent back down into the woods near the railway followed by about a mile of undulating path to the finish. Managed to hang on OK about half way down the field ......most of whom hadn't done the race the night before.

Didn't manage to do the 3rd race in the series due to my work insisting I head to the US for a couple of days leaving on Sunday morning but from photos/reports looks like the Sunday run was also a good one for the future. Good to see new races on the calendar .....well done Adrian Davis
