In the Dark Handicap

5th March 2008

A driech mild night at Clachan of Campsie. Muddy and slippy underfoot. 21 runners took part, although Rob appeared to drop out through injury. Fastest runner on the night by some margin was Dougal Ranford. Ellen finished narrowly in front of Clare in the ladies' race.

Convivial curry take-away at Andy & Jen's afterwards.

A good club event with a good turnout of runners, and amazingly almost as many marshals and spectators. The weather added to the fun, slippy underfoot but the rain held off and there was no wind. Not to many torches were in evidence on the hill (thanks to fear of the tongue of Pat) so we could enjoy the lights of Glasgow below. Dougal passed in a blur, Graham looked in fine form, Ellie was as strong as usual and seemed to bouncing along the road, and Muffy showed why she is topping the winter league with another consistent run, though she is never happy (remebering glories of old). I was pleased with another pb, by around 3 minutes I think and was sorry not to be able to go on to the Andy & Jenny's as I was on dog duty. Great handicapping meant we all finished within 8 minutes of each other so thank you one and all.

    A top evening indeed !

With my beach holiday due to start in three weeks ...I was nervous about going over on an ankle or worse. But the chance of a wee blast about in the dark wi pals took preference !

Big thanks to Simon for finding every step on the way up the first track - this certainly saved me a face plant or two. Similar thanks to JD for picking a line off the hill ! Dougal went past at an incredible rate (I assumed he had tripped and was trying to regain balance). HUGE thanks to all who took times, marshalled and generally supported the night.

Sitting in front of the fire and Andy & Jenny's I couldn't help but think that pakora and chapatis will not be available in the MdS ...a shame :-(
