Old Crocks Run in little Stepps!
Oh well, it seemed like a good cop-out from the rigours of the Carbeth trail...3 laps of relatively flat playing-field perimeter, a total course of 4-5 miles and a fun-running entry of well past it old Strathclyde Uni fogeys. How wrong I was...a bright and bushy-tailed (I guess?!) bunch of dudes and divas lined up for my old Pal George McIvor to set us on our sploshy way round waterlogged wetlands. (Yes, I AM enjoying the alliteration, sorry if you're not). Well, as you may know, Grim has one trick up his sleeve even dafter than his DIY Westy vest and dodgy cheap yellow branded trainers: whisper it, he runs barefoot! and so it was that after a lap in his New Balance studs, getting nowhere fast, I threw 'em off (footwear I mean!) and padded and sploshed round in a dire time of 37 mins +.
Results to follow. George cheered me up (NOT) with tales of our contemporaries either deid or with heart flutters (and I don't mean the wummin in the race!!)

Barefoot? That's a novel attempt to run like the Kenyans.

For the record, the race was won by A.Little (Shetts) in 25m 29. Second was a wummin! - F. Gentles (Strath Uni) in 29m 36. To answer Johnston Orr's point, my role model, in the 1960s as now, is /was Fergus Murray who used to win the X-country National (on Hamilton Racecourse in those bygone days) barefoot...followed at some far distance by a barefoot young Grim!
