Braid Hills Race
There were 2 Westies who forego'ed (forewent?) the dubious joys of Tinto Hill - Jane Robertson (time-keeping) and yours truly the Ever-Grim. I arrived to catch the last stages of the wummins' race, and to rub shoulders with a couple of Boggin' old chums (YP and Ivor Normand, to be precise). A fine but breezy day for the race, dry-ish underfoot.
After what felt like a false start (actually, being advanced up to the start-line), we plodded off along the bridle path on the long climb up to the Braid Hill trig point and the short hurtle down towards the golf club-house. The last time I saw the leaders, there were 2 prominent lime-yellow vests leading the way; must be Leeds Uni's new trim?
Whoever J. Walsh is (any relation of the footwear?) he must be some runner, to take 2 minutes off Rob Naylor's (HBT) time over 6 miles. In their wake, some 2 miles adrift, I was having my own tussles with a guy from Ferranti and wee Eric from Edinburgh City. Des Gilmore was time-keeping too, and I'm sure my time was 48.04 and not 48.27 as on the "official" results! 8 minute miling pace - O the shame of it! - but how about YP who managed the 2 laps in ONE HOUR?!
Selected times:
1. J. Walsh (Leeds) 30.45
3. Rob Naylor (HBT) 32.45
80. Ivor Normand (HBT) 39.36
145. GrimOrr (Westies) 48.04
152. Robin Thomas (aka YP) 60.00
