National Cross Country Relays

A select few WEsties turned out for a nice wee blast round the grounds of Cumbernauld House. On the male front Central A.C. won, Inverclyde were 2nd and my old club Shettleston Harriers were 3rd. Westies one and three quarters teams were pushing them all the way. On the female front it was Central again, Kilbarchan and Giffnock chased home by an elite Westies squad.

Enjoyed this wee blast around the park, and might even be tempted to do another XC relay in future. Well done all Westies who ran. Excellent lap by Scott! Thanks to Dave for organising (and for the loan of the vest - my first outing in Westies colours), and sorry I wasn't a bit quicker. The close finish caused Muffy some consternation. My strength seems to be coming back a bit but I'm not quite there yet.

Stunned by the speed of the frontrunners in all categories!

You are kind John, but I think that only the first 2/3 of the female team was "elite", the third team member was dead on her feet. Not sure what was more stressful: trying not to throw up when I was running, or watching Johnston at his photo finish. Thanks to Dave and Helen for coaxing me up the last hill, and to Dave for bellowing at Johnston. In both cases it worked :)

A good wee race with great pleasure to be had by both Don and myself as we hurtled past ex-Westie and now Trotter Geoff Mitchell.
