West district relays, Irvine Beach
Strange to report what was almost a Westy non-event, but hey, someone's got to do it. I arrived at the dear old Magnum Centre some time after 2pm, to find the wummins' race about to start and Helen MacP pawing the start-line purposefully. She assured me that Don was taking care of the men's relay team...but Don was nowhere to be seen. Never mind, a lovely day, and wasn't that Marc McColl and the Shetts runners there to be teased?! At last Don appeared...and then we were two. Don set off on the 2.5 mile canter looking eager...some quarter of an hour later, he reappeared looking well whacked. As there were only the two of us blokes, history doesn't record what I looked like after my puff aroon the dunes. Worth recording that our wummin at least finished a team!
Memo: we need motivators to get Westy vests out there! If Drew, Chaz, and Dave Calder can't rally the troops any more...? How about some incentive, maybe not Winter League points but a "Westy Runner of the month" award?
