A Dalmally Horseshoe- A Sunday Amble

It was going to be Bennachie, but in the end Ian & I were due for a walk. If you are looking for another epic to read, this is not it, so best pass on this one.

A reliable source informed of a horizontal band of cloud 60 miles wide just where we were heading...up to Ben Cruachen.

As we drove up we were already in a temperature inversion close to Dalmally. This could be good,this could be very good.

We thought of going further north,as an option when we left Glasgow,but in the end glad we did'nt.

The sun shone all day,perhaps a hint of a breeze as the day progressed and we spent as long as we ever have on a top,an outlier of B. Cruachen with views over to the Paps of Jura, round to Ben Starav, beyond to Ben Nevis, and round again to Ben Ledi.

What a day it was. Well I have to say it took your breath away,no really.

On such a day you might think everyman and his dog would be there. No. Not this time. Sum total of two other walkers.

So, you can imagine the setting,the views as above,wanting to linger on the ridge as long as possible,very still,only the bellows of the rutting stags resounding over the hills,when......

what's this.... only the Magic Roundabout being played - from one of the walker's ringtone on his phone. Dougal et al are still around then.

Anyway when we did drag ourselves off the top, we descended with another stop for tea,and exploits of an earlier era, in the time of

Struthers/Calder/Al Campbell.

But then we could'nt stay on the top just all day as we had a Rugby match to watch.Oh too late,don't mention the rugby.
