Black Mountains Fell Race

29th September 2007

Llanbedr, South Wales

17 miles, 5200ft

Around 53 runners turned up for a grey and misty tour round the Black Mountains near Abergavenny. Lloyd Taggart of Dark Peak was a clear winner in his first attempt at the race, finishing in 2h28. The next 2 runners were both from local club Mynydd Du: 2nd and 3rd were Mark Palmer and Dave Finn in 2h30 and 2h36 - just back from their Transalpine Run.

To avoid getting totally lost, I jogged round the course with former Westie Crispin Flower, up until the final summit Crug Mawr once I thought I knew where the finish was. I was 4th in 2h46, and Crispin finished shortly afterwards in 2h47. 6th finisher and 1st lady for the 5th year in a row was Jackie Lee in 2h52.

Lots of good running, and lots of places to get lost without local knowledge!

Stop it. Just stop it. You mad, mad individual. Just sit down and have a rest for once. Find something good on the telly. Or go to a pub.

Racing in Wales. Really. As if Scotland didn't have enough...

    P.S. Well done!

Sorry Johnston. I do sometimes plan to have a lazy weekend, but it never quite works out.
