Narnain Boulder Dash

A great sunny evening in Arrochar and eleven Westies headed off at speed up to the Narnain boulder for the second ever running of the Narnain Boulder Dash Handicap. They then headed back down the hill at an even greater speed. It was fun to see the wee races between folk as they hurtled towards the finish - Muffy v Steffen being the most unlikely battle to the end. Results are below - apologies for any odd handicapping or maths, my wee bit paper was a far cry from Rob's laptop based spreadsheet! Well done to all the runners and to Drew for keeping an eye on the stopwatch in the face of a horrific midge attack. Hope everyone had a good night.

A lovely short race in surely the most stunning scenery per foot (meter) of any race going?. Richard and I had a friendly tussel (ooh er missus) and he came out on top (phnar). I decided to run all of this up hill as a training exercise and was pleased to jog steadily all the way. The big guns came charging by around half way up and after chatting from the start Richard now pulled away after them. I plodded on and felt ok by the boulder (heart rate the same all the way up so even effort) but took a while to find my descending legs so you were all going away still. However I got faster as the descent went on and I was catching up but never quite caught Richard up and Jenny put in a final spurt to hold me off (way hey). No short cuts allowed this year but I was still 2.5 minutes faster than last year so thats good going, also interstingly my heart rate was faster on the descent than the climb ( and climbing it was at my 10k average) which shows how I was pushing down, so I am well chuffed. A good race was followed by a sociable meal at the Village Inn with the BEST veggie menu ever (red blob or mushroom strog - universal veggie food)! Many thanks to Cat, Drew the big M.
