Turnhouse Hill Race
A new race in the Pentlands organised by Andy Kitchin to raise funds for orienteering. It was a lovely evening for 60 runners and a geat turnout of Westies - Manny, Don, me, Murdo, Jacques, Donald, Val, Cat, Katherine, Elsie. The route was excellent, mostly runnable trods, a short sharp climb, a heathery descent, moe runnable trods and a good grassy fast finish. And all only a hundred yards from the pub.

Cracking wee race, short and sharp.A good lesson in how not to "follow the leader" since they don't always go the right way!Helen Rogers & Duncan Gorman were 1st & 2nd respectively in the junior race, with Duncan managing a spectacular fall....after the race was over! For my part, I did my usual slow start and worked my way up the field once I warmed up a bit.I slogged me way into 5th going uo the back of Turnhouse and kept that positon to the finish line, although I had to stop and wait on Steve Fallon at one point - to check I was going the right way off the hill!Don on the other hand came off the hill too far right and missed Jane at the checkpoint, and seemed to leave rather sheepishly during the prize giving...Another great turnout on a Wednesday night by Westies.

And a great performance by the Westies ladies - Helen Rogers winning again and Val was 2nd in the senior race. Well done girls!!I really enjoyed it, a lovely sunny evening, a quick short sharp race over fantastic runnable hills (with the exception of a surprisingly tussocky descent which seemed to be thrown in just for badness!) and a cool beer with the Westies possee afterwards....fab..
