Chatelherault Handicap
11th July 2007
25 runners turned out for the 2nd Chatelherault Handicap - a hilly 10km route with about 250 metres of ascent. The route takes a figure-8 around the forest trails, crossing White Bridge twice. The winner of the handicap race was Westies new-comer Johnston Orr, with fastest lady Ellen Homewood finishing 2nd, on a comfortably warm sunny evening.

Good to hear about such a large turnout, sorry dog duty meant I couldn't make it. But how about full race results, not just the readjusted times? This is the point of a handicap, for people who wouldn't normally do so to experience winning! And then to be heftily handicapped for the rest of their lives (Boo!)

Sorry Chris, I have to agree with Jason - the whole point of a handicap is to give the whole field an equal chance of winning, and in this case it was not you even though you ran the fastest time - you'll just have to run faster! Results ought to be as per the handicap system, not on actual times, or else you might as well just run a scratch race.It would be good to see the real results...

Cracking race over one of my favourite routes and a regular for me in Hamilton. I was dozing in the car shortly before we started thinking that the Heb Challenge had finally done for me. However there is nothing like a good handicap race to get me going, so I set off with Hamilton eager to see if I would run well or rubbish. Fortunately it was the former and I hauled in a few bodies mid race before somehow managing to fend off Graham and Steffen who were chasing me down. Another rare PB for me, over 2mins up on last year. A great turnout of Westies and a good time in the pub after as well.

As well as posting the real results, here are also the handicapped results:Handicapped Results, ie. sorted in random order with random times added.

Cheers for that Chris, call me pedantic but I just like to see the actual finishing order. I accept that the handicapping is fairly random, but its still the nature of the race. Well done all who ran!

Fairly Random .....fairly random ?!?!?!?! Don't let Rob McQ hear you saying that - he had a laptop which was running spreadsheets to decide handicaps and everything (not sure how it coped with new folks though) !
Personally, I am interested in both the actual finishing order and the real results - room for both I am sure.
