DumgoyneDaunder2007

Well I can only be thankful that Charlie wasn't handicapping this, as Capn Chris calls me 'Ridiculously Slow' and this worked in my favour in the race on this lovely summers evening from Blanefield.

I think around 15 Westies turned out for this great little 5 miler which has a bit of everything. I started out 4th with newbie Jenny, and reached Dumgoyne with Drew, but then we both climbed too early and ended up in a real hands and feet scramble up the steep gully. Muffy and Jenny made up time here, and feeling the heat I was topless before the summit (with no idea Ellie was there taking pictures!).

The return is a lovely steep drop off the hill and then a swooping, undulating float back to Cantiwheery (?) where the sudden change to flat running feels like hitting a wall.

All along the final track I expected the big boys to come flying by but it never happened. I finished first (ha ha) and in a pb on last year of 3.5 min I think, so chuffed. Graham Kelly finished 2nd, Jenny was first woman and Chris was fastest time of the night, flying in to the finish for another of his many pbs.

Well done to all who ran, Steffen getting better with every run out, Andy showing real form despite a hard race in the Arrochars at the weekend, Muffy and Simon having a great sprint finish and Anna finishing well despite missing the race start.

Followed by showers or drinks and a very sociable curry in Bearsden. Pauline waited for others and they had their own run, sorry not to have seen you all. What a night!
