Kilpatricks Hill Race 2007
A marshals partial view.
Well here's your starter for ten, hoping others will add more detailed comments.
On a lovely sunny day I picked up Rani after work and jogged up to the dam from the usual car parking spot above Duntocher. Passed several local scallywags who were really funny on the way up, and a dad and his son on MTBs.
At the dam by 7, just in time to see Claire jog down the hill going to her marshalling spot across the loch. Waiting in the sun was lovely, a slight breeze kept the midgies away and after tieing the gate open, I jogged up and down the route a little and did some strides.
The 4 locals joined us for a swim and had the nerve to call Rani dangerous! The cheek! Then the 2 bikers and finally a walker happened by who was in Maryhill Harriers, so there was quite a crowd there to see Stuart Simpson come by first, making up for his bad run last year, closely followed by John Stephenson (?not good at names). After this the runners came thick and fast so I won't pretend to name everyone, but Don had some natty headgear and Tom stood out as a newbbie right on Don's shoulder! Well done that man, even though I did get your name wrong. The usual suspects pounded through, looking very hot and bothered, but no one asked for the water I had carried up. Though only Val was carrying any that I saw, as 2nd woman, and chasing HelenP only a dams length ahead.
It was really good to see Luke out for a race after so long, even if it clearly was hard work, and what about Ellie? After Jura, Coranlees, 10k, Duddon, now this all in 12 days! There is no stopping her. Is this the every day running of Chris infecting her or just her own ocd? Either way I was impressed and she looked steady as about 4th woman.
Well the rest was a lovely sunny chat and cheer, GraemeBenny actually stopping for a chinwag.
It'll be good to hear a runners view and see the end results, but I had a great race.
Ththththat's all folks!

A big thanks to everyone who helped out Jason, Claire, Graham, Margaret and Drew Turnbull, Helen's daughter Karen, Pat, Isabelle, Ian Murphy, Malcom Patterson my neighbour Cheryl and Willy from the Vet Harriers. I felt very reassured having them all there being so friendly and efficient. I really enjoyed the evening and we had record entry of 68 runners. I am thinking of putting on a junior race next year - any thoughts? Christine

Great idea Christine on the junior front. Would be willing to help. Thanks for a well organised raceGood run by new guy Tom - he stuck to me like glue after i passed him after the trig point. Had to descend like a maniac to get away from him!!

Have to concur with Jas, whit the heck was Don on!? Well his big fancy 'Blackbird' motorbike for a start, then runs the race in one of the hottest days of the year so far, with a jazzed up black bandanna, also known as a 'Buff' Would say that the guy is having a bit of a mid-life crisis, but heck he's even too old for that.... :-)

Well, Gypsy Don read my palm before the race, and noted that I had a big trip ahead (that happened going round the 2nd reservoir!) but otherwise this was a humdinger of a race, and a grand bargain curry to follow! I'm not sure if my time of 1 hr 7 mins+ was a PB, but it must have been thereabouts. Ideal conditions - no midges - Chris M. out there organising after all - patience and tolerance from the Old Kilpatrick bowlers as I grabbed a sneaky gulp of water in the clubhouse before the start. Beat Donald Smith again! Cort-ma-Law, look out!The toughest sprint was to catch the 11pm bus to Edinburry...made it.

That's 3 years in a row I've run this race. Its a stonker! One of the best hill races in Scotland. Luckily didn't fall at "The Chair" but the mud was up to my knees at "The Canal Turn" at bottom of the first decent. What hill races are all about!

A top night indeed !
I arrived nice and early at my given location (the gate at the end of the loch) and got to kick back while the stove boiled away ready for my coffee. The soundtrack to "The Last Waltz" by the Band playing on the Mp3 added to the occasion.
The heat of the evening was obvious with most runners accepting a little water as they passed.
With the last guy through, I packed up and headed over to the Slacks to see folks passing through. Top moment was seeing one poor individual assume the MRT guy with a large yellow rucksack (containing a stretcher) knew a better line than the well marked descent ...only to realise that was not the case and dog leg back onto course !
Possibly the only more surreal sight might of been Claire, Isabelle and Pat (aka the Westies Cheerleaders) running down the hill complete with streamers being followed closely by me carrying "the chair" !
Like Grim said ...a good curry as well - what more can a body ask for.
Some photos added .....
