Two Breweries
1993
Weather was cloudless, clear and warm with a slight breeze on the hills. Used race as long training run with Lesley. Start at the Traquair House and Brewery. First 1½ miles on the road. Got a good warm up before the hills. We both started at the very back of the field and worked our way up steadily through the race. Followed thick heather, rutted path and track all the way to Dunrig. From there on was heather in patches but mainly tussocky grass tracks. We kept a relaxed pace throughout the race. There were two drink stations on the course and we used both. Lesleys legs were knackered between station number seven at Stobo Castle and the foot of Trahenna Hill, but she gained momentum well and we both finished strong. Most of the course was runable except for the serious climbs at Grieston Hill, Birkscairn, Stob Law, Whitelaw Hill and Trahenna. Would have required navagational skills if mist had been down. Both well pleased with a steady, solid run from the back. Scenery made it worthwhile alone, nevermind the free beer, meal and social event after the run. The organisers are talking of probable course changes next year.
