Glengoyne Gallop 1993

1993

Weather was warm, hazy sunshine, wore Walsh boots, no tape on ankles, no t-shirt only Westies vest.

Start up track from Distillery. Do a lap of field at foot of hill. This was hard going in the long grass. Struggled up to stile crossing. Got a good rhythm going after the stile. On the steep slopes of the hill - hands on knees job - for 600'/700'. Picked up about half a dozen places on the way up. Legs felt fine at the top. Had a really good descent by my standards although 3/4 places were lost to faster descenders. Tom Ross gave me a good chase all the way down but I held him off by about 20 seconds at the end. Didn't lose any places from the stile to finish. Managed to gain one place. Really steep final drop down to the Distillery. Legs feel fine, well pleased. First race since Dumyat Hill Race. Good food and drink afterwards. Barbeque and free whisky.
